Aida - Opera

Aïda, an Ethiopian princess, is torn between love of her homeland, family and the man who loves her. Radames, is the man Aïda loves. He is appointed Commander of the Egyptian Army and sent off to fight the Ethiopian invasion. Amneris senses the feelings between Aïda and Radames which angers her for she is also in love with Radames. Radames returns to Egypt victorious along with a group of Ethiopian prisoners. Included in the group is Amonasro, Aïda's father. Amonasro manipulates Aïda into discovering the battle plan of the Egyptian Army from Radames. He is discovered giving the details to Aïda and Amonasro by Amneris and is sentenced to be buried alive.

Access Into Theatre:
The theatre is not completely wheelchair accessible. There are 3 sets of entry double doors. The right hand (north) set nearest the ticket office has a ramp with automatic door openers. The other two sets of doors have one step.

Orchestra Location:
Accessible with ramps. 

Mezzanine Location: (2nd level):
2 flights of stairs up (approximately 32 steps). Entrance is at Row E in the Mezzanine. 

Balcony Location: (3rd level):
Balcony slope is steep. There are handrails on the steps/aisles as you walk to your seat. There is a safety rail you may hold in front of each seat. 60 steps above lobby. Landings at about every 7 steps. Balcony connects to Lobby but not to Mezz, separate staircases. Enter Balcony in front of Row C.

The Cutler Majestic Theater is located on Tremont Street between Boylston and Stuart Streets, halfway between the Common and the Citi Wang Center.

Public Transportation:

The Green Line stop is Boylston/Theater District. When you leave the station, walk downhill to Boylston and Tremont streets, cross Boylston and continue downhill ½ block. Look for the purple and gold banners on the right.
The Orange Line stop is Essex/Chinatown. When you leave the station, walk to the front of the China Trade Center building. Keep that building on your left as you walk one block along Boylston Street. At the next corner (Boylston and Tremont), turn left onto Tremont Street. Look for the purple and gold banners on the right.

Driving Directions:

From I-93 North and South:
Due to continuous highway construction, please refer to the Mass Pike website at for up-to-date traffic and exit changes, or contact the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority at 617-248-2800.

From the North: 
Take I-93 south to Exit #23 (South Station onto Purchase Street). Continue along Purchase Street which becomes Surface Artery to Kneeland Street. Take a right onto Kneeland. After 2 blocks this becomes Stuart Street. When Stuart Street dead-ends, turn right onto Charles Street. Then take another right at the next light onto Boylston Street, then another right at the next light onto Tremont Street. The Theater is in the next block on the right - look for the purple and gold banners and the electric marquee.

From the South:
Take I-93 north to Exit #20 (South Station). Go off exit ramp and bear left immediately following signs for South Station. Go through a couple sets of lights and stay to the right at the split still following signs for South Station. Keep going over ramp until you come to a light. Take a left, turning on to Kneeland Street (after 2 blocks this becomes Stuart Street). When Stuart Street dead-ends, turn right onto Charles Street. Then take another right at the next light onto Boylston Street, then another right at the next light onto Tremont Street. The Theater is in the next block on the right – look for the purple and gold banners.

From the Mass Pike:
Take the Copley exit. Go left at the first light, onto Dartmouth Street. Turn right at the second light onto Boylston Street. Stay to the right. At the fifth light, turn right onto Tremont Street. The Theater is in the next block on the right - look for the purple and gold banners.

There are plenty of parking lots and garages within a block of the theater.
