Belle of Belfast - Play

Seventeen-year-old Anne Malloy is lost and angry after the tragic killing of her parents to a terrorist’s bomb. Like many who suffered and survived during Ireland’s “Troubles”, she turns to the comforts of her local parish. However, her passion is not for the Church, but for her confessor and confidant Father Reilly, forcing both to re-evaluate where one finds solace and faith during a time of conflict. Nate Edelman’s sharp dialogue and dark wit shines through this moral conundrum, and his skillful depiction of this war-torn city forces us to reconsider what is wrong and what is righteous.

Belle of Belfast is being produced under the auspices of Cherry Lane Theatre’s Obie Award winning Mentor Project Series. Mentor Project, the cornerstone of Cherry Lane Theatre's development programs, engages pre-eminent dramatists in one-to-one mentoring relationships with aspiring playwrights for an entire theatre season. This season’s mentors included David Henry Hwang, Craig Lucas and Charles Fuller.

Directions and Parking
Trains
The 1 train is the most easily accessible to the Cherry Lane Theatre. Get out at the Christopher Street stop and walk three blocks south on Seventh Avenue to COMMERCE STREET (also called CHERRY LANE, on the West Side of Seventh Avenue). Turn right onto Commerce Street and walk to the end of the street. The theatre will be on your left.

The A, B, C, D, E, F, and V all make stops at "West 4th Street" on Sixth Avenue, a few blocks east of Seventh Avenue.

Buses
The M 20 bus stops at Christopher Street and Seventh Avenue. When you exit, walk three blocks south on Seventh Avenue to COMMERCE STREET (also called CHERRY LANE, on the West Side of Seventh Avenue). Turn right onto Commerce Street and walk to the end of the street. The theatre will be on your left. Be sure and ask your bus driver if the bus you're taking stops at Christopher Street.
